Gutfleisch Brothers

The brothers Johannes and Christian Gutfleisch founded their jazz quartet in late 2022 – a project where many years of musical experience meet a deeply rooted, intuitive connection. For over 20 years, both have been active on stages across Switzerland, southwestern Germany, and internationally with a wide range of formations.

At the core of the group’s repertoire are original compositions and arrangements developed in recent years. Rooted in the jazz tradition, the music of the Gutfleisch Brothers moves between strong melodic expression and rhythmic density. Influences from the ECM aesthetic, fusion, world music, and classical music merge into a distinctive sonic identity – shaped by subtle interplay, dynamic tension, and a rich, organic band sound.

In 2025, the quartet received a cultural grant from the City of Basel. In October of the same year, they recorded their debut album at Hardstudio Winterthur, with a release scheduled for November 2026.

With Patrick Joray (saxophone) and Gianni Narduzzi (bass), two young and expressive musicians expand the group’s sound. Their playing adds further energy, depth, and tonal nuance to the ensemble.
